Grapefruit and pimento berries snap open with a jolt of black pepper, bright for a moment before the heat takes over. Cinnamon, cumin and saffron build a dry, almost edible spice heart. Then it settles into tobacco leaf, black vanilla and woody amber, smooth and a little boozy, the part that clings to a coat collar for hours. One spray is a statement and three is too many; aim for the collar and save it for nights cold enough to need a coat.
